The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry praised House lawmakers on the passage of House Bill 417, legislation that provides an important tool to help build and retain a skilled workforce. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Mike Henderson (R-Bonne Terre).

HB 417 would create a short-term upskill credentialing program. This is a grant program that would reimburse employers who help their employees earn short-term upskilling credentials in vital areas for Missouri’s economy.

HB 417 is critical in supporting Missouri in the global competition for jobs and talent.

“When meeting with businesses, I hear over and over, we have the jobs, but we just can’t find the people to fill them,” said Dan Mehan, president and CEO of the Missouri Chamber. “Ramping up programs that can quickly and efficiently train workers for high-demand fields is a must. This bill helps employers upskill their existing workers, which is key for retaining workers and building a talent pool from within. We applaud House legislators for their quick action in passing HB 417, as well as Speaker of the House Dean Plocher (R-St. Louis County) and House Majority Floor Leader Jonathan Patterson (R-Lee’s Summit) for advancing this important priority for the business community.”

This important workforce development bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
