Scam Alert – Registered sex offenders are the target of a telephone fraud scheme involving scammers posing as law enforcement officers. The scammers threaten jail time if bogus fines are not paid for fake warrants, suspected noncompliance, and other delinquent fines. The potential victims are advised that they can avoid prosecution by providing gift card or financial information during the phone call.

As a reminder, law enforcement does not solicit money. Additionally, gift cards are not an acceptable form of payment for any legal fines. Victims of this scam should notify police. Registered offenders who have concerns about their compliance are asked to contact the Sex Offender Compliance & Management Unit at 636-949-3000.
