We had the pleasure of providing a tour to Mark Sloan.  Mark is a long-time St. Peters resident, a Korean War Veteran, and FIVE-TIME Purple Heart recipient.  Our Korean War Era Veterans and volunteers Art Minor (Air Force) and Chris Christifoley (Army) swapped stories with Mark.

The Korean War was fought from 25-JUN 1950 to 27-JUL 1953.  Mark was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division in the Signal Corps and was stationed in the occupation army in Japan when the war started.  Mark and the 25th Infantry quickly deployed to Korea in July 1950.   Mark would serve four years in the Army, three of those years in Korea.  While serving in Korea, besides the five Purple Hearts, Mark earned the Soldiers and Army Commendation Medals for acts of heroism.  He later enlisted in the Air Force.

We recently interviewed Mark and his story now resides in the museum. To read Mark’s story, go to stories on our website.
